Welcome to South Johnstone State School!

2011 brings a new and exciting year for all students enrolled in our school. For the 2011 year we will have two classes for students. The Prep- Year 2's will work in the downstairs classroom with Mrs Cooke while the Yr 3 - Year 7 students will be upstairs working with Ms Edgerton.
Our school has a dedicated Parent group with open comunication between staff and families. Students of all ages work and play together in a friendly "family" atmosphere.
Enrolments are welcome in all year levels and we encourage parents and/or students to contact the school for details.

In February we were whipped with the tail of Cyclone Yasi, when it crossed the Queensland coast south of us, at Tully and Mission Beach. The school was closed for one week and during Term 1 we have been repairing and replacing damaged school equipment and buildings. This is a photo of the day we re-opened when the Army visited us to deliver bottled water. Thank-you to everyone for your best wishes and support during this challenging time.

School Improvement...just the beginning |
|

A quiet revolution is happening in Queensland State Schools to help all students improve their school performance every year.
New programs are providing support to our school communities, school leaders and classroom teachers like never before.
Our approach draws on international research about the best ways to imrpvoe children's school results. For example, Queensland is the only state in Australia that has developed a program that examines all areas of teaching and learning at every school. The process is known as the "Teaching and Learning aCurriculum Audit". This important information is being used by school communities to improve results.
You too can play an important role in helping us to achieve our goal of being among Australia's best performing states in English, Maths and Science.
Parent fact sheets and children's activities to help with reading, writing and maths can be downloaded from the Department of Education and Training website at www.det.qld.gov.au
