Mariah, Chloe and Rhiannon collected a $100 cheque from the Commonwealth Bank on Friday. Bank Staff used some of our Eco -Club displays and decorated the bank for a State Wide competition to encourage people to use on-line bank statements rather than paper ones. They won first prize in the competition and generously donated the money back to the school. Our Student Council will benefit and funds will go into our Camp/Excursion Fund. |

On Monday the 1st of June our “Principal for the Day” was past student & Deputy Mayor of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, Mr Mark Nolan .
I thank the Principal, staff and students for making me their guest for the day and it was most enjoyable. Computers have certainly proved a wonderful tool in this era of the Education Revolution and I was very impressed with the students interaction and level of knowledge.
As a past student of this great school it made me proud to read the recent report that rated South Johnstone State School as one of the smaller schools that obtained above average outcomes in the State for Literacy and Numeracy tests. I will take this opportunity to compliment the staff of this school for their dedication and professionalism in achieving this great result.
The students can look forward to completing their Primary education and progressing to the soon to be completed Innisfail State College where they will be able to obtain High Education outcomes or a trade. It is a wonderful facility to have in our region.
I look forward to attending the schools Presentation Night at the end of the year and thank you for your kind invitation to be your Principal for TODAY. Yes state schools are Great Schools.

South Johnstone State School has a display up at the Commonwealth Bank in Innisfail entitled "We Love Trees". We were invited to display our eco projects to promote Paperless Bank Statements and hopefully save some trees. Make sure you check it out! |

Students have formed an Eco Club which meets from 3.00 – 4.00 pm every Tuesday afternoon. Miss Foreman has been helping us dig the soil and mulch our new vegetable and herb garden. Here are some photos of our progress so far.

Thanks to the generosity of our Parents and Citizens Association, we offer free school tools to every student in 2009. On Day 1 students picked up their supplies for the year, labelled, covered and ready for use. Included were pencils, glue, rulers, excercise books, crayons etc.
The text books have been heavily subsidised by the fund-raising efforts of our students in our 2008 Spell-a-thon.
The initiative has proved very popular with our parents. Special thanks to Ethan and Xavier's family for helping the staff to organise the book packs.
