Hey everyone!

Last Thursday, our school had a prep open day, where all preps joining our school joined us for the whole day! Over the past few weeks we have also been having the preps for next year come to school on Wednesdays, just for the first morning sesion. All the preps have been enjoying this opportunity to get to know their way around the school and all the teachers and students.

And always remember...

Our school my be small, but our hearts are BIG!

A select group of instrumental music students from the region's state schools were chosen to take part in a combined State Schools' Instrumental Music Workshop which culminated in a concert in Cairns as part of the Q150 celebrations.

Two of these talented young students are Leo and Ned (from Mena Creek State School). They were among 120 students from more than 16 schools who participated in the concert.

Four students went to see Dr Peter Eastwell's highly engaging science show last week. Dr Eastwell demonstrated in many ways the fascinating properties of AIR. Afterwards, the group stayed on to participate in a full-day science workshop.

Mariah, Chloe and Rhiannon collected a $100 cheque from the Commonwealth Bank on Friday. Bank Staff used some of our Eco -Club displays and decorated the bank for a State Wide competition to encourage people to use on-line bank statements rather than paper ones. They won first prize in the competition and generously donated the money back to the school. Our Student Council will benefit and funds will go into our Camp/Excursion Fund.

Principal for the Day, Mr Mark Nolan
Written by Mr Mark Nolan
Monday, 15 June 2009

On Monday the 1st of June our “Principal for the Day” was past student & Deputy Mayor of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, Mr Mark Nolan .

I thank the Principal, staff and students for making me their guest for the day and it was most enjoyable. Computers have certainly proved a wonderful tool in this era of the Education Revolution and I was very impressed with the students interaction and level of knowledge.

As a past student of this great school it made me proud to read the recent report that rated South Johnstone State School as one of the smaller schools that obtained above average outcomes in the State for Literacy and Numeracy tests. I will take this opportunity to compliment the staff of this school for their dedication and professionalism in achieving this great result.

The students can look forward to completing their Primary education and progressing to the soon to be completed Innisfail State College where they will be able to obtain High Education outcomes or a trade. It is a wonderful facility to have in our region.

I look forward to attending the schools Presentation Night at the end of the year and thank you for your kind invitation to be your Principal for TODAY. Yes state schools are Great Schools.
